Ancestry?s London parishes database shows that Harold Percy Goddard, the son of George Weavings and Harriet Sarah Goddard, was baptised at St Andrew?s in West Kensington (Fulham) on 12 December 1874. George was said to be a merchant living at 3 Rosa Villas, Little road. Harold was with his grandparents at Llanishen in Wales in 1881 and with his mother at Wandsworth in London in 1891.
British Army WWI Pension records show that he enlisted in the Royal Fusiliers on 3 September 1914 at the age of 39 years and 9 months. His enlistment papers stated that he was then a civil engineer, had served in the Calcutta naval Volunteers between 1895 and 1898 and, from 1898 to 1901 as an acting corporal in the Northern Regiment VR (indecipherable). His NOK was G. W. Goddard (father) of 6 Wilstbury Road in Woodside Park in North London. He seems to have served in England before being discharged as ?no longer fit for war service? on 21 June 1916. The cause of discharge was chronic dysentery which his medical board noted he had contracted before he enlisted (?In 1895 whilst employed in the tropics (Assam India) [he] had malaria and dysentery. Enlisted in September 1914 and has been in and out of hospital constantly since?. In spite of this he was discharged as an acting corporal and his character was described as ?very good?. His address on discharge was ?Alipur, Westbury Road, Woodside Park London North?.
His miliary record also shows that during his time in the Army harold married Armeria W. Reis at St Barnabas in Middlesex on 4 May 1915 (the wedding was witnessed by G. W. Goddard and A. E. C. Goddard). He was reasonably tall (5 feet 10 inches) and was a practising Catholic.
The Catherine House records confirms that a Harold P. Goddard and Armenia W. Reis were married in the Barnet registration district of Greater London in the April quarter of 1915 (3a, 1021)
The UK National Probate Calendar shows that at the time of his death on 28 Februay 1920 (at the Penang General Hospital in the Straits Settlements) Harold was living at Kuala Lumpur in the Federated Malay States. Probate, decided in London on 24 march 1920 was paid to George Weavings Goddard, retired Indian merchant.
