The following original letter is in possession of Joanne Franklin, to whom
it was given by her cousin C. Emery Mendenhall. Emery found it in his late
mother's (Martha Mendenhall) things. Martha's mother was Johanna (Luethje)
Schultz, whose husband was EFH Schultz, the son of Wilhelmine Queitsch:
"To the Widow Wilhelmine Queitsch, nee Schultz From the office of the Court for Guardian, Royal County Court to Guben
"In the matter of the illegitimate Schultz case you are herewith informed, due to your letter of 17th of the Month, to employ the services of a notary Public and state that you relinquish on behalf of your deceased daughter Augusta Franziska Bertha all claim to the estate. This document must be notorized by the German Counsul and forwarded to this office. When the above has been taken care of, the on hand deposit will be handed over to the surviving children of daughter. Further you are notified that your daughter Anna Schultz has been left from the estate of the Merchant Lau a legacy of 100 [?] = 300 Mark. This has been paid to Basketweaver Henrich Engmann as trustee and guardian for Anna Schultz. This cannot be done until we are in possession of a notorized statement by a certified notary that you are relinquishing all claims to the estate of your deceased daughter Augusta Franziska Bertha and this also must be notorized by the German (Konsul) Counsul and forwarded to this office. When we are in possession of said documents we will remit the now deposited funds to you for your 2 now still living children. However the funds for your daughter Anna can only be turned over to her on her reaching the age required by our courts to be regarded of age. Basketweaver Heinrich Engmann will administer said funds until then."
