  • ID: I86898143
  • Name: John (Jr.) COLLIER
  • Given Name: John (Jr.)
  • Surname: Collier
  • Sex: M
  • Birth: Feb. 28, 1707 in of, King and Queen Co., VA
  • Death: abt. 1773 in Nicholas Co., KY
  • Note:
Son of John Collier, Sr. (b. 1684-85 VA) and Frances Elizabeth Ironmonger (b. 1685 VA)--[though some researchers put this John Collier's parentage as Elizabeth Gaines b. 1685 and John Collier b.1685 VA, I believe that this is an error. Elizabeth Gaines Ironmonger married John Collier's brother, Charles Collier, (though they too probably had a son they named John Collier around same time--and these two John Colliers would be cousins).
Elizabeth Gaines Ironmonger and Frances "Sallie" Elizabeth Ironmonger were sisters who married brothers, John Collier and Charles Collier. The mother of both Frances E. and Elizabeth G. Ironmonger was Elizabeth Gaines, and their father was Francis Ironmonger.
Another source, "The Website Heresy & Murder of John George Smithpeter at Saxe Gotha, SC" GEDCOM of Brenda Reed's "kith & kin of VA., TN., the Carolinas & Beyond", indicates two different John Colliers: one born Feb. 28, 1706-07 in King & Queen Anne, VA and died 1773 in Nicholas Co.,KY to John Collier and Frances E. Ironmonger; and second John Collier b. 1722 in Augusta Co., VA and died about 1757-1759 in Collier's Creek, Augusta Co., VA to Charles Collier and Elizabeth Gaines Ironmonger- this may be an answer to this puzzle, and these two John Colliers were cousins, who both had large families with children with same names in some cases.
One of the John Colliers is the son of Charles Collier and Elizabeth Gaines Ironmonger; and the other John Collier is the son of Charles Collier's brother, John Collier, and his wife, Frances Elizabeth Ironmonger].
{**-I believe that this is the cousin who stayed in VA--John Collier (Jr.) m. to Ciseley/Sisely Hall (b. abt. 1707 VA, dau. of John Hall and unk. Gibson, accdg. to some records;Ciseley (sometimes spelled Cicely or Sisely)Hall (source:]says that John Collier and Ciseley/Sisely Hall had son, Aaron Collier, in Grayson Co., VA, and then moved to Pulaski Co., KY, along with some of Aaron's brothers-Aaron's inventory was listed in Pualaski Co. in 1788 - unknown when and how Ciseley Hall Collier died).
Another researcher,, shows that Cicely and John Collier had other children as well: Alexander, Margaret, Moses, John, Shadrack Collier, as well as Aaron Collier - all born in VA**).
*(possibly another sibling, or prob. cousin of John Collier's, Thomas Collier, married Elizabeth Ricks/Reeks and had 8 children, one of whom was a John Collier b. 1742).
(*NOTE -Three sons of one of the John Colliers--John Collier, Joseph Collier, and Charles Collier--later became sea captains, indicating that they remained living on the east coast of America rather than heading westward to KY/IN).
John (Jr.)Collier and Elizabeth Meredith had at least 9 children.
[Source: "Collier" by E.R.Collier, TX, 1975; and source: - both sources indicate that John Collier b. 1707 had only 6 children, however: Thomas b. abt. 1740; John; Joseph; Elizabeth Ironmonger; Frances (f.); and Sally Collier].
(Source: Kindred Konnections researcher shows that John Collier of Hanover, VA, b. 1707, served as an officer in a Virginia Regiment under Admiral Vernon during the Carthagaen expedition of 1740-42 (source: Augusta Co., VA-Chalkley's Chronicles, Vol. 3, pg. 300-309)--unsure which John Collier this is).
[Source: World Family Tree Archive, Broderbund Banner Blue Div., vol.2, pedigree 3300 on Nov., 1998]-There is preserved the will of John Collier, Jr. of Hanover County, VA, dated September 26, 1759, which names sons Thomas, John, Joseph, daughters Elizabeth Ironmonger Collier, Frances and Sally; to my mother-in-law (another term for step-mother) Ann Collier (nee Eppes), of King and Queen Co., the part of that tract that was given me by my grandfather, Charles Collier, of King and Queen, and to my sister-in-law, Martha Gaines (sister to Frances E.
