Name: Isaac COLLIER (COLLYER)
Given Name: Isaac
Surname: Collier (Collyer)
Birth: 1606 in London, Hertfordshire, England
Death: May 24, 1688 in York Co., VA
Immigration: 1650 to VA colony with nephew, William Collier
Isaac Collier Sr.was born in London, England into a wealthy merchant family. He married first in London to Elizabeth (Sarah) Baptist and had one child, Isaac Collier(jr.) in 1655.
Isaac Collier Sr. then traveled to the American colonies "with his nephew, William Collier, who later moved to New Kent Co., VA to a section that later became King and Queen Co., VA"-though other researchers indicate that Isaac Collier Sr. was already in VA when William Collier first arrived around 1633--both of them from a wealthy merchant family in England who had invested in the colonies; it is apparent that both went back and forth several times during the early settlement of VA colonies.
(Some records indicate that Isaac Collier Sr.was son of Robert Collier and his first wife, Mary Pennye, and not 2nd wife, Mary Strang).
Isaac Collier Sr. had two marriages: #1 to Elizabeth(Sarah)Baptist and had child, Isaac Collier++, born either 1653 or 1655 (?) in St. Antholin Parrish,England; #2 marriage was to Mary Sarah Lockey/Lockley (B.abt. 1610 (?) in London) - they married about 1650 (accdg. to source email@example.com) in London, and came to VA in 1650 (source: history of Oglethorpe Co., GA, and will written Mar. 10, 1687; probated May 24 or 29, 1688, York Co., VA)-- and had 4 more children in VA: Charles* b. abt. 1653 (or 1670 accdg. to some researchers, though I believe that the 1670 date is in error); Thomas b. abt. 1651; Abraham b. abt. 1655; and Sarah** b. abt. 1657 - all 4 born in York Co., VA.
Though records indicate that Isaac Collier Sr. (b. 1606) immigrated to VA colony in both 1650 or 1662, he probably came and went several times and married Mary Sarah Lockey in VA and fathered his four children in VA--Isaac jr., his son by first wife in England, also eventually came to VA with his father.
son, Isaac Collier, Jr. married Annie Vines, had a son by the name of Vines Collier who removed from Brunswick Co., VA to Wilkes Co., GA abt. 1780. Vines Collier m. *son, Charles Collier m. Judith Myhill (b. abt. 1669 in York Co., VA, dau. of John Myhill and Mary Lockley of York Co., VA (prob. related to his mother's family) and had 4-6 children: Mary b. abt. 1670 (?)(later m. George Bussey in MD, administrator of Charles Collier's will w/her husband George-so she may have been Charles' sister rather than his daughter, and had 2 children, Thomas and Charles Bussey in MD, she d. aft. 1733 in MD); Isaac b. abt. 1709 in York Co., VA later had children: Anne (m. Charles Collier may have had a second marriage to Mary ? after death of Judith; he died Aug. 20, 1722 in York Co., VA.(Source: Collier's mausoleum, Greenwood cemetery, Barnsville, Lamar Co., GA).
**Sarah married first to William Whitaker, and second to James Dowling; she died in 1711 (Source: Brock-Gomez research; "Collier" by E.R.Collier of TX,1975).
++Isaac Collier jr. b. abt. 1653 or Apr. 5, 1655 in London to Isaac Collyer sr. and Elizabeth (Sarah) Baptist, died in Hampton, Elizabeth City, VA, indicating that he also immigrated to American colony of VA with his father. History of Oglethorpe Co.,GA shows Isaac Collier m. to Anne Vines, though this is most likely his nephew,Isaac, son of step-brother, Charles Co
