  • ID: I92767985
  • Name: Barnabas ARTHUR
  • Given Name: Barnabas
  • Surname: Arthur
  • Sex: M
  • Birth: 1735 in Bedford Co., VA
  • Death: Mar. 2, 1815 in Goose Creek, Bedford Co., VA
  • Note:
Barnabas may have had an early first marriage to Elizabeth unknown (b. abt. 1735), accdg. to some records (source:
Mg. #2 was to Martha Talbot on May 17, 1758 and had 10-12 children: Phebe, Elizabeth, Francis (Fanny), John A., Rhoda, Lewis, WILLIAM ARTHUR b. Nov. 14, 1762 and d. July 9, 1847 who m. Anna Nancy Watts (b. abt. 1760 and d. June 19, 1848), Barnabas, Lucy, Mathew, Jane, and Caleb Arthur (source: Ancestry World Tree Project 13295 of K. Arthur, and Gene Pool Indiv. Records from
{Phebe, Elizabeth, Francis (Fanny), Mathew, and John A. Arthur may all five be children of Barnabas' first wife, Elizabeth, as they were born between 1750 and 1757; the other 8 children: Rhoda, Lewis, William, Barnabas, Lucy, Jane, Talbot, and Caleb are apparently the children of Martha Talbot, as they were born between 1760 and 1777, or perhaps with third wife, Nancy Williamson).
(Source: FamilySearch ancestral file v4.19 (AFN:KWZG-57) indicates that Barnabas Arthur may have had a 3rd wife, Nancy Williamson (b. abt. 1735), whom he married Jan. 3, 1811 in Bedford, VA. ( also lists Nancy Williamson as a third wife).
Barnabas Arthur was left only 5 shillings in his father, John Arthur's, will of 1793, though his siblings (except John)were all left land on the "plantation" or "estate".
This Barnabas Arthur has some confusing records, though more than one Barnabas Arthur (and cousins, prob.)could have been born around the same time (circa 1735)in VA. Some records show birthplace of Lunenburg Co., VA, Brunswick Co., or Campbell Co., VA in 1736 or 1734(rather than 1735) as his birthdate and place. Death dates shown are Mar. 2, 1815 in Bedford Co., VA ;or 1803 or Nov. 4, 1799 in Wilkes Co., GA (this is prob. another Barnabas Arthur, son of William A. Arthur and Ann Calvert or Anne Murray, and cousin to this Barnabas Arthur, who emigrated to GA).
