“Edward (Harnett, Harnet) Harned (b ante 1618), to Salem, Mass., 1634-37, as apprentice to Joseph Bachelor, tailor; admitted to Salem Ch. 1645: to Huntington, L.I., 1658; m 1st, ca. 1645-50, Elizabeth Porter.” (The Compendium of American Genealogy, p 417, Frederick Adam Virkus, Ancestry.com database)

“Harnett: -- Edward Harnett, Salem 1640, had grant of land year before, as had also Edward, Jr., probably his son. Perhaps it was the elder who with wife Priscilla, suffered for favoring the Quakers, 1658; but doubt is felt which of them it was that had Jonathan, bapt. 1650; and Eunice, 1652. Probably the younger Edward married a daughter of Jonathan Porter, of Huntington, L.I.” (Genealogical Guide to the Early Settlers of America, p 237, Henry Whittemore, Ancestry.com database)

“Notes for EDWARD M. HARNETT JR.: Edward came to America between Dec. 1634 and May 1637. He came on the ship Hercules, with John Witherly as master. The ship left from the Port of Sandwich, County Kent, Eng. He is listed on the passenger lists as a servant to Joseph Bachelor of Canterbury, who was a tailor. He was more than likely an apprentice to Joseph., Admitted to the Salem church in 1645 and shortly thereafter married Elizabeth Porter. When they left Salem, they sold their lot to Thomas Solas on July 29, 1658, for 13 pounds payable in English goods at William Brown's shop. After they moved to Long Island, Edward has two references made to Property he sold. No reference is made as to when Elizabeth died, but he remarried to Mary Marsh in 1671. The last record of Edward is in 1696.” (Jack Heine, HARNETT-L Archives, RootsWeb Mail List database, 18 Feb 2004)
