Notes for JONATHAN HARNED: Jonathan appears to have been the only son of
Edward, Jr. He was a Cordwainer (shoe maker), and in 1668 Huntington town
records describe Thomas Powell's house lot as lying northwest of Jonathan
Harnit. On 17 Apr 1672 Jonathan Harnett was identified as one of the
owners of Lot 6 of the "Ten Farms" at Huntington. On 10 Nov 1682 the
spelling Harned was first used when Jonathan witnessed the deed of a farm
from Joseph Bailey to Nicholas Smith. In 1683 his taxable property at
Huntington was assessed at 65 Pounds. There are several references in the
public record to "Jonathan Harned's grown-up hollow", which had become a
point of reference for property descriptions. On 1 Sep 1711 Jonathan
Harned of Huntington made a deed selling all of his land holding to
various parties, probably indicating his intention to retire. The records
of Southold, Long Island show that in December 1711 Jonathan Harned had
two lots laid out between the fresh pond and the wading river at
Acquabank, at the east end of Long Island.
