    ...............................

On the death of his father, Richard Walter (eldest son of William Walter by his wife Elizabeth Protheroe) came into possession of his father's property. He married Bridget, the daughter of Henry Middleton of Middleton Hall, Carms. He died in 1671, and by his brief nuncupative will, dated 21 Sept., in that year and proved at Carmarthen on 25th of the following month, he charged his estate with £1000 in favour of his four daughters. Richard Walter and his wife Bridget presumably sold their interest in the manor of Dale to David Painter, as by a fine levied on 20 Aug., 1669, they released that property to him, and in the year 1699 that estate was conveyed by David Painter to William Alien of Gelliswick, in the parish of Steynton, Perns.-Fine in 1699.
The children of Richard Walter by his wife Bridget, who afterwards married ---- Gwyther, were:-
    1. Henry Walter (eldest son).
    2. Richard Walter, to whom his father gave a mortgage for £80 on Penyddyllwyn. Richard Walter lived in the parish of Llangunnor, probably at Cwmgig-fran, and apparently died a bachelor, as there are no bequests to children or wife in his will, which is dated 9 April, 1709, and proved at Carmarthen on zoth of the same month by his niece and executrix, Margaret Almon. The testator desired to be buried in Llangunnor Church.
    3. Albinia Walter, who died a spinster. In her will, dated 15 April, 1686, and proved at Carmarthen on 17 June following, she is described as Althenniah Walter of Minweare, Perns., spinster; the bequests, however, contained in it prove that there is no mistake in the identity.
    4. Mary Walter, who was a spinster in 1709.
    5. Frances Walter (wife of George Phnlipps of Pembroke), who died prior to 1686, by whom she had a son and daughter, respectively named Richard and Bridget.-Will of Althenniah Walter.
    6. Bridgett Walter (youngest daughter) who apparently married ----- Bowen ; at all events she is described in her sister's will as ' my sister Mrs. Bridget Bowen.' She afterwards married Joseph Almon, by whom she had a daughter named Margaret.-Will of her brother Richard Walter.
