Publications: Russian Wars with Turkey; Memoir of Earl of Peterborough. Married 1888, Philippa, daughter of Rt Hon Henry Baillie, MP of Ridcastle: 3 sons, 2 daughters. Died 18 March 1912. (Balliol College Register/ 2nd ed. 1933.) --- The gardens at Aden are described on p173 of Notes from a Diary, 1873-1881, by Mountstuart Elphinstone Grant Duff, pub J Murray 1898. Also reference to Francis on p38. --- On the opposite side of the gorge, and immediately over the sea, stands Lord Aberdeen's Marine Villa ? now the property of Major-General Russell of Aden ? commanding a remarkably fine view of the sea. Everything has been done to render this a charming summer retreat. Walks have been cut... (Buchan, 1901) --- To the south of the village of Boddam stands Earl?s Lodge (formerly Buchanness Lodge). This former marine villa, erected in 1840 by Lord Aberdeen, possesses a commanding view over the sea. --- The larger roofless building remains behind the Castle is a former Boddam Hotel built in 1840 called Earl's Lodge (also called Buchanness Lodge). This was closed down after a fire and fell into disrepair until 2006 when the roof was repaired and the structure and interior rebuilt. It is now a private home. --- ?In front of us were the policies of Colonel Russel, which could only be viewed from a distance. Sacred were the environments of Aden House, and no mean step was allowed to pass the gateway; yet, as boys, and with all our boyish inquisitiveness and love of adventure, we often stole along the avenues and up the gravelled walks till ...?
