    Ralph became in 1365 possessed of the manor of Burton (afterwards Burton Hastings) in Warwickshire and following the death the previous year of his uncle, Sir Robert de Herle, he inherited the manor of Kirby in Leicestershire which remained the family's main residence for the next 109 years.
    Sir Ralph de Hastings was governor of York castle and a retainer of Henry Plantagenet duke of Lancaster. In 1377 he became sheriff of Yorkshire.
    He died in 1398 and was buried with his father at Sulbey.
