    Is this the Nicholas Kniveston of Mercaston who ?became prosperous in the mid 1300s, partly as a result of Royal Patronage from John of Gaunt.?Although that Nicholas is said to be son of William, the first of Mercaston.
    Sir William Kniveton of Mercaston (created bart. in 1611), was descended from Sir Matthew de Kniveton (living at Bradley Hall, 1301- ).
    In the church at Mugginton, Derbyshire, A chantry chapel called the Kniveton chapel contains an alabaster alter tomb surmounted by the wonderfully preserved brasses of Sir Nicholas Kniveton Of Mercaston Hall and his first wife Joanna.
