Offered for sale in 2006 for 5,000 by Alex Alec-Smith Books, UK:
AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED Oct 17 1814 to F. Hodgson respecting a bill which is enclosed.
9 ins x 7.25 ins. 1p folded with bill tipped in preserved in a blue morocco folder lined with watered silk. The text of the letter is " My dear Hodgson - I am truly sorry to trouble you, but my cousin G. Byron is in want of a loan - and if you could get the note now due cashed (of Mrs Taylor's) it would be very convenient. I enclose the note - excuse my haste and laconism - I am in town but for a few days and hurried with a thousand things - believe me ever yrs. most truly Byron".
The bill reads" London August 1814 Two Months after date Pay to me or my order the sum of one hundred and fifty Pounds Value Received Frances Eliza Taylor To the Rev. The Dean of Christ Church". On reverse of letter is written "NB: Enclosing Promisory Note from Mrs T. This was paid in 1816" and initialed FH.
Also included is a typed letter signed from Sir John Murray to the previous owner dated 24th IV 1952 "Dear Mr Hobbs, Thanks for yours with the Byron letter. I am glad to say that my nephew John G. Murray, and I, who both make a special study of Byron letters, are convinced that your one is altogether authentic, and is a genuine one to Hodgson. This is doubly authenticated, I think, by Hodgson's initials outside; so I really think that you need not have any doubts about it. I am glad to have seen it and return it herewith. Yours sincerely John Murray".
Marchand Vol 4, p213. Marchand's footnote to this letter says " Hodgson was engaged to a daughter of Mrs Tayler. Another daughter had married the Rev. Henry Drury on Dec 20, 1808. Mrs Taylor may have been a widow when Byron in 1813* travelled all night in a stage coach to convince her that Hodgson would be free of debt and thus got her consent to the engagement with her daughter.
According to Prothero (LJ, I, 197n) Drury's wife was daughter of Archdale Wilson Tayler, or Boreham Wood, Herts. The note for 150 must have been for a loan that Byron made to her.
    * it seem she was not yet a widow in 1813, but her husband was abroad and would never return.
