Sir Robert was said (in a pedigree drawn by Stephen Glover abt 1847) to be descended from Gilbert de Lytton son of Mary de Lytton named in a deed dated 1283.
Littons of Litton had seat at Litton near Tideswell, Derbyshire from 1214. They sold it in in 1594 to John Alsop. From the heiress of the last Lytton of Lytton [what?] descended through many heiresses to a Bulwer, ancestor of the Bulwer Lyttons.
