Fought for Charles I at Edgehill.
His son William was 6th Baron (d 1713), and his son Henry (d 1743) was created 1st Earl of Uxbridge (a title that was created again for William, 5th Baron?s gg grandson Henry Bayly/Paget, qv)
His portrait by Lely was at Nuneham Courtenay. It was sold by Viscount Harcourt in 1948 and at some point entered the collection of Hugh Paget, Esq. As far as can be told from examination of the catalogue illustration, the portrait was then sold by Phillips on 20th June 1995 (lot 8) from an unnamed deceased estate. Unfortunately, Phillips has now folded, so it would be difficult to obtain a reproduction of their catalogue illustration. We have a negative (not the best photograph, it must be said) of the portrait as it appeared at Christie's sale in 1948 (Reference Negative Number 5109). It would be possible to order a print of this from the Gallery's Picture Library.
