VCH states that one of the Oxenbridge?s of Beckley is said to have purchased Brede Place from Joan atte Ford. As per rootsweb Joan was born about 1323.
Robert Oxenbridge acquired an estate there from Sir Alan Boxhull who in 1405 sold to him the reversion of land and rents in Brede, Udimore and Ewhurst, which Alice, widow of John Oxenbrigge held in dower. He also seems to have rented Brede manor from John Cornwayle, as in 1414 he held a court there (VCH). - The deceased husband of Alice above would probably be the John Oxenbridge atte Forde who occurs in 1378 and was succeeded by a son Robert.
In 1411 Robert Oxenbregge witnesses a feoffment in Wittersham (RYE/1367168). He, as Robert Oxenbrigge, is listed in a summons of the sheriff of the counties of Surrey and Sussex along with Thomas Camoys, Robert and Thomas Poynings, John Pelham, the abbot of Battle, the abbot of Robertsbridge, Thomas Lewknor, Thomas Hoo, Thomas Sackville, John Brews and others. (Cal. Pat. Rolls 11 April 1418 at Wickham). C. 1409 he is mentioned as being an escheator (SAS/G45/8/(2). Robert appears between 1396 and 1429 in various grants concerning land in Northiam and the Gotele family (FRE/6916 and others).
Robert's son, was succeeded by another son named Robert whose wife was called Ann (d. 1493).
