Note: Walter Payne died without issue, and William Knoyle of Sampford Orcas, co. Somerset, son and heir of Thomas Knoyle by Alice his wife, daughter of William Payne, was his heir. He settled this estate 18 Edw. IV. on his father for life, with remainder to Thomas Knoyell, junior, brother of the said William, and Elizabeth his wife, daughter of Thomas Hampden of Kimbell, co. Bucks, for their lives, with remainder to himself in tail, remainder to the right heirs of Alice, late wife of the said Thomas Knoyle, sen. Thomas Knoyle, died seized of a life estate in the premises [at Lullworth St. Andrew?s] on the morrow of St. Andrew the Apostle, 20 Edw. IV.[1480/81], William his son and heir aged 40 years and more. (http://www.dorset-opc.com/EastStoke/EastStoke-Hutchins.htm) --- The manor of East Lydford, Somerset, was afte 1392 divided between the descendants of three daughters of William and Elizabeth de Reigny: William Banastre (II), John Montfort, and Catherine wife of John Wykyng. - The final third of the manor passed to the Knoyle family of Sandford Orcas (Dors.), possibly by marriage with the Wykyng family or their descendants. Thomas Knoyle, son of Robert (d. c. 1412) and Joan Knoyle, held lands in East Lydford in 1412 and died in 1416. (fn. 113) William Knoyle (d. 1502) held it by 1475, (fn. 114) and thereafter the property descended successively to Peter (d. 1508), (fn. 115) Leonard (d. 1532), (fn. 116) and Edward Knoyle. (fn. 117) John Parham of Poyntington (Dors.) married Edward's eldest daughter in 1571, (fn. 118) and Edward Knoyle and his son William conveyed the third to Parham in 1583.
