Name: John Reynolds 1
Birth: ABT 1565 in of Leitrim, Ireland
Occupation: Captain in the Elizabethan army
Change Date: 4 NOV 2011
This John was known as ?Seaghan na gCeann? (John of the Heads) on account of a dreadful massacre he instigated of the leading chiefs of his tribe at his castle of Loughscur.
On an island in Lough Scur are the remains of Castle John, which was built by John Reynolds [abt 1570] in the reign of Elizabeth I, and was frequently attacked by the O?Rourkes. [He died 1632]
The name was originally MacRaghnaill/MacRannal/MacReynolds until anglicised by Thomas Reynolds during Queen Elizabeth?s reigh [1558-1603]. His grandson was John, the builder of the castle at Lough Scur.
(If John really was born about 1565, then he couldn?t have been the one who built the castle about 1570?)
