Name: Robert Hassells or Hasels 1
Change Date: 28 JUL 2009
There was a family called Hassell seated at Dalemain, Cumberland, so if Robert was of that fmaily it would strengthen the case for John Howard being of a Cumberland family.
There are no Roberts mentioned in BLG re Hassell of Dalemain.
One entry on the IGI (submitted) says he was from Halswell, Somerset, England.
Halswell House, is near Goathurst, Somerset.
Assuming the name might be Halswell:
The Robert mentioned here is too early to be Dorothy?s father. But there could have been a younger son. If so the IGI does not show one (there was one in 1530/40 and one in 1630):
Nicholas Halswell (d 1564)'s widow Margery held Halswell, Somerset, until her death in 1573 when she was succeeded by Sir Nicholas, son of her son Robert (d. 1570). Sir Nicholas (d. 1633) conveyed Halswell to his eldest surviving son Henry in 1628. Henry died unmarried in 1636 and was followed by his only surviving brother the Revd. Hugh Halswell. Hugh (d. 1672) appears to have settled Halswell on his daughter Jane (d. 1650), who married John Tynte, and in 1667 the manor was put in trust for her son Halswell Tynte (cr. Bt. 1673).
