    On 13 December 1539 at his house at Gurney Street, Cannington, he murdered his wife and her sister (Eleanor, wife of George Sydenham of Chilworthy, nr Ilminster, Somerset). (Star Chamber Cases, S.R.S. xxvii,216)
    Gurney Street is the name of the house, not a street.
    The poet John Stradlings?s parents were Francis and Elizabeth Stradling of St. George?s, near Bristol. Francis died in 1589 (Traherne p. xxi). His mother, the sister of Joan Portman (cf. III.174 with the note ad loc.), was a daughter of Thomas Michell of Carrington [sic].?

    Walter Michell (d. 1487) of the manor of East Chilton, Cannington, was followed in succession by three sons, William, John (d. 1492), (Footnote 34) and Thomas (d. 1503). (Footnote 35) Thomas Michell, son of the last, in 1539 murdered both his wife and her sister and then committed suicide. (Footnote 36) Richard Michell, his son and heir, died in 1563 leaving the manor, then called simply Chilton, to his son Tristram. (Footnote 37) Tristram died in 1574 and was succeeded by his brother Bartholomew, later knighted. On the latter's death in 1616 his heirs were his two daughters, Jane, wife of William Hockmore (d. 1626), of Buckland Baron (Devon), and Frances, wife of Alexander Popham. (Footnote 38)
    Thomas Michell (d. 1539), lord of the manor of Wembdon, Somerset, owned a house called Perry Court [in Wembdon] which was the capital messuage in the earlier 17th century.
    There were four estates called Perry in Wembdon in 1086.
