Sir Ellis Hicks. who was knighted by Edward, the Black Prince, on the field of Poitiers, on September 9/1356, for bravery in capturing a set of colors from the French: had son:-
John Hicks. Died in 1492, of Tortworth, Gloucestershire.

Other records only make John (d 1492) a descendant, not son, of Sir Ellis, which seems more likely if John died 136 years after Ellis was old enough to be knighted.
