William Bowles married Elizabeth daughter of Sir John Gifford, kt, Lord of Clynton and had the Manor of Rushall for life, with remainder to his children by his wife Elizabeth.
?In 1349 William Bowles married Elizabeth [as her 1st husband] daughter of Sir John Gifford, kt, Lord of Clynton [and of Chillington, d abt 1344] and had the Manor of Rushall for life, with remainder to his children by his wife Elizabeth. They had one daughter Katherine who married John Hewitt of Walsall. Bowles dying in 1349 in the Black Death Elizabeth married William Colesone. There was no issue of the marriage, but there is a lengthy record of the dealings of Colesone with the manorial rights. The name is incorrect as there were no Colesons, Cousins, or Colcons in the area. It may well be a misreading of a 14th C variation of the spelling of Colclough, such as Roger de Cokesone mentioned in Salt in 1337?
