    2nd son.
Gilbert Kennedy, having graduated at Glasgow extra ordinem, was nominated to a chaplaincy of the forces under Monroe, and accompanied his elder brother Thomas to Ireland, circ 1647-8.
The circumstances which attended his settlement corresponded with those of his elder brother, and shortly after his coming over he was inducted into the combined parishes of Dundonald and Holywood, in county Down, on the same terms as Thomas, viz. not being required to conform to the ritual of the Church of England.
He shared in the persecution which obliged Thomas to fly to Scotland, where he, too, fled and became minister of Girvan, but was subsequently ejected by the act of the Council of Glasgow in 1672, when he remained pastor of the Presbyterian congregation Dundonald (Ireland) until his death in 1687.
He married Miss Montgomery, a relative of the Earl of Eglinton, and had three sons, Thomas, Gilbert, & James, and five daughters, viz Anne, Elizabeth, Sarah, and to others, of whom Dr...
(Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland Journal. 1887. Page 33.)
In the Historical Society records, the date of death of the first Gilbert Kennedy has been changed from 1687 to March 1698. The record also shows that his tombstone is in Comber (Dundonald having been crossed out).
(I did have him dying 6 Feb 1687.)
Ejected from his congregation at Girvan and compelled to flee from Scotland owing to his Puritanism.
Ejected 1651 from parish of Ayrshire [?], Scotland, and emigrated 1668 to Ireland and took over the Parish there after the death of Mr. Peebles.
Gilbert Kennedy, a distinguished Presbyterian divine, was interred in the church of Dundonald in 1687. (Lewis's Topographical Directory of Ireland, 1837)
LDS seems to say he married Margaret, dau of Lord Glames, but I feel sure this is a confusion with his ancestor Gilbert Kennedy, Earl of Cassilis, who married Marget Lyons, dau of Lord Glamis.
Ordained Girvan; Scotland 165;, came to Ireland 1668, appointed minister of Dundonald & Holywood 1670. Died 1698, buried at Comber Church of Ireland churchyard 4 March 1698. Brother was Rev. Thomas Kennedy, minister of Comber (son of Colonel Gilbert Kennedy, Ardmillan, Ayr, Scotland.
    Glasgow University, graduated MA 1647.
    Died 6 February 1688.
    Buried Dundonald.
?Mr. Thomas Kennedy was in the same-year [which?] ordained at Donaghmore, two miles from Dungannon. Mr. Kennedy was elder brother of Mr. Gilbert Kennedy of Dundonald, and nephew of John, sixth earl of Cassilis, one of the lay-assessors of the Westminster Assembly.?
