  • ID: I33343
  • Name: Thomas de Musgrave
  • Prefix: Sir
  • Sex: M
  • Birth: 1302 1
  • Death: 1376 1
  • Residence: Harcla or Hartley Castle 1
  • Note:

Sheriff of Yorkshire, Governor Berwick then York.
BP1934 shows Thomas's marriage to Isabel but not that to Margaret and therefore implies that Isabel was mother of Sir Thomas. We follow TCP and the Musgrave web site (identified below) which both identify Lord Musgrave's 2 marrriages and show Margaret as mother of Thomas.
The manor, possibly with a manor house, was confiscated circa 1315 from Roger de Clifford and granted to Andrew de Harcla. Fortified in 1323 it was granted to Ralph de Nevill and later purchased by Thomas de Musgrave who received a licence to crenellate in 1353 because it had frequently in the past been burnt by the Scots.
