There is an interesting entry in the Calendar of Fine Rolls for 1458. An order to divide all the lands which Sir Thomas Rempstone held at his death in the right of his daughters who were 'Elizabeth wife of John Cheyne, Isabel wife of Brian Stapleton and Margaret wife of Richard Byngham the younger esq. 'as the king has taken the homage and fealty due from the said John, Brian and Richard by reason of their having issue by their wives'.
Present on the field of Agincourt, and otherwise rendered valiant service in the French wars of those days. He had his tomb at Bingham, Notts, and having no male heirs, his lands were divided among his daughters, of whom the second, Isabel, married Sir Brian Stapleton, and carried Bingham as her portion into that family, from whom it passed, by purchase, to Sir Thomas Stanhope.
Sir Thomas Rempston of Beckering and Tuxford. Died 13/4 July 1489?
He married Alice, daughter of Thomas Bekering, and by her had: 1. Elizabeth, wife of John, afterwards Sir John Cheney; 2. Isabel, wife of Sir Brian Stapleton ; 3. Margery, wife of Richard Bingham the younger.
Both the Bingham and the Rempston estates afterwards passed to the Stapleton family.
