Note: Also married Alicia de Drayton. --- In 1185 William was fined £23 for his marriage to Joan as she was already betrothed to the son of Ralph de Gedding. William accompanied Richard I "Lion-heart" on the 3rd Crusade in 1191 and was at the Siege of Acre. He also went on the disastrous 1204/5 campaign in Normandy. King John sent an order to the Sheriff of Yorkshire for William to pay 10 marks that he owed Jewish money lenders. On the 21st May 1216 William, or his son William, was made Constable of Norwich Castle. The city had just been besieged, captured and plundered by the French Prince Loys Capet.
