William Atherton 1325/1389 inherited the manor of Atherton and in the right of his wife as co heir of Mobberley. He goes on to acquire the lordship of Garswood and and simply buys a manor through a marriage for his 2nd son Nick. His brother in law Ralph Mobberley is an important soldier in the retinue of the Black Prince.
