Is it coincidence this Catherine, widow of Robert Wilson, bought the rectory of Merton from Thomas Locke in 1644,and that a Rowland Wilson (married Mary Tiffen, qv) was of Merton Abbey in 1633/5 (Visitation of London)?
Lysons in ?Environs of London says ?The Locks conveyed Merton place, &c. to Catherine Highlord, who became the wife of Rowland Wilson.?
This is wrong - ROBERT Wilson was her first husband.
Mentions ?certain messuages etc and the manor of Keythorpe in the County of Leicester, which I purchased of Francis Wayte, Gent,? one half of which she gave to son Richard and the other half to son Thomas, her son Robert to have it in his custody until Richard and Thomas are 21.
Will date 22 May, proved 22 July 1648.

Katharine Highlord bought the rectory of Merton from Thomas Locke in 1644. She devised it to Robert Wilson, her nephew, who in 1697 conveyed it to Robert Dorrill.
In 1639 John James of Braughing (Herts.), gentleman, mortgaged the messuages and shops representing 8, or the greater part of it, to Robert Wilson, citizen and draper, for £400. The principal and interest were not repaid by the appointed day, and Wilson came into absolute possession. On Wilson's death the title passed to his widow and executrix Katharine, who in June 1641, with her husband, John Highlord, alderman, Anne Rudd of London, widow, Gilbert Harrison, alderman, Thomas Jennings, esquire, Thomas Austine, esquire, and John James himself and James's wife Anne granted the property to Matthew Collins.
From the above two pieces, it is clear that the Robert Wilson who gained Merton rectory after 1644 and sold it in 1697, was nephew of Robert Wilson, citizen and draper, who married Katharine __ and died before June 1641.Page: page 132
