As the heir of Odard the sheriff, he was the owner in 1212 when the great inquest of fees was made for the whole of the county, and was the first that we have found who adopted the territorial name of Wyggeton or Wigton. He was known as Adam de Wigton, a style afterwards continued by his descendants. In 1221 and 1222 he was employed with others in taking a view of the forest of Cumberland for the purpose of reporting its condition to the Crown.2 He must have died about 1225, for in that year Odard son of Adam de Wigeton, that is the third Odard, did homage for the land he held in chief and paid ten marks for his relief.
