Mortgage by George Combs of Chichester, maltser, and Mary his wife, late called Mary Hoar, spinster, (one of the devisees named in the Will of John Hoar her late father to Thomas Coles late of Walderton (sic) and then of Funtington, yeoman - for £200 - of one undivided moiety of a barn and gateroom and severall closes of land containing 17 acres, being part of a farm and lands called Gosdoune Farm; which premises were formerly purchased by Thomas Freeland, one of the ancestors of Mary Green [should that be Combes?] of John Hooke then of Bramshott, Southants, esq., and Francis Hook, second son of the said John Hooks; all in Prinsted in Westbourne and late in the tenure of John Harfield and then of John Freeland and since of Samuel Hoar*.
The deed recites that John Hoar late of Prinsted, yeoman, by his Will dated 4 July, 1778 devised (among other things) his freehold barn, lands &c. at Prinsted, lately purchased of Mary Green widow, and John Green her son, to his daughters Rebecca Hoar and Mary Hoar as tenants in common, chargeable with the payment of £8 yearly to his wife Jane during her widowhood.
