Name: William Edmonds
Sex: M
Birth: BEF 1630
Death: BEF JUL 1658
Note: Will proved 2 Jul 1658
1 2
Residence: Aldingbourne, Sussex
Note: 3 1 His residence at Aldingbourne, Sussex is from BLG 1852 re Goring (whcich gives the marriage date). --- Ward to the King 1634. His elder brother Henry married Frances, dau of Sir John Harrington, and died osp. --- His death date is taken from a descent of the manor of Yapton given in the Sussex VCH. Ellinor is not mentioned, but given her marriage place and date, and the fact her father and grandfather were both William, I have made the connection. --- Ellinor is said to be sister of Henry Edmonds, in the will of her husband John Racton. - This William had a son Henry (not shown on SAC tree) who died 1675 [after the date of John Racton?s will, in which he was mentioned], whose heir was his brother John who died without issue in 1688 and was succeeded by his sister Charity and her husband Lawrence Eliot, who at his death in 1726 settled the estate of Yapton on Samuel and John Marsh. (Source given by VCH for Edmunds descent is BL Add MS 39504 ff 462-84) [Could Marsh possibly be an error for Nash?] --- There are memorial plaques on the walls on either side of the altar at Yapton, and one refers to (William?s daughter) Charity Edmonds?s ancestors having been of ?Bayley?s Court, adjacent?, meaning Baillifscourt, Climping. --- Is Elinor?s brother the one mentioned here: Lease for a year (being part of a lease and release), 18 October 1667 Between (a) Henry Goreing the elder of High Deane in Washington esq., Sir Henry Peckham of Chichester, knt., and George Edmonds of Arundell, gent., and (b) Henry Edmonds of Yapton, gent. Manor of Illsham St. Johns in Clymping and Yapton. --- Assignment of a lease - ref. Add Mss 12,895 - date: 13 April 1668 [from Scope and Content] Between (a) George Edmonds of Arundell, gent., (one of the executors of the will of William Edmonds of Yapton, gent., dec'd.) and (b) Henry Edmonds of Yapton, gent., son of William Edmonds. (WSRO) --- ALDINGBOURNE. 1. 21 May, 1650. Bargain and Sale by WILLIAM KENDALL, citizen & merchant taylor of London, to ROBERT EDMONDS of Yapton, gent., of pasture ground called Windovers in the tithing of Westergate in Aldingborne, viz., ..
