    When Elizabeth I, came to the thrown in 1558, she gave Bindon Abbey, Dorset, and its lands to her cousin Thomas Howard, 3rd Duke of Norfolk who took his title Viscount of Bindon from the estate.
    He married Christian, daughter of John, Lord Marney, who was a heir to the de Newburgh [see that family] estates which included Bindon Abbey and its lands as the de Newburgh peerage had become extinct.
