The Chantry or College of Arundel and its lands were confiscated in 1544 by the crown and immediately sold to Henry Fitzalan, Earl of Arundel, who in 1568 sold the Manor of Yapton to John Edmonds, otherwise Bawdewyne, of Bailie?s Court and Yapton.
(?Yapton and Its Church?)
Henry Fitzalan, Earl of Arundel with John Lumley, Lord Lumley and his wife Jane granted Yapton to John Edmunds. (Cal Pat 1566-9 p 301).
[The descent of Yapton through the Edmunds is then set out in the VCH Sussex as shown here.]
The Jane Lumley mentioned must have been Jane FitzAlan (d 1576, dau of Henry FitzAlan, 18th Earl of Arundel) who married John Lumley, 1st Baron Lumley (b c1533, dsp 11.04.1609). Was there any family connection with the Edmonds?
