    <p>Born in Vienna within a family impassioned for the great ideas, Robert Waelder (1900-1967), which was single child until the birth of his/her sister at the twelve years age, was recognized as of his childhood for his exceptional intellectual qualities. Always plunged in the books, it obtained a doctorate in physics at 21 years. Curious, attracted by the new ideas, Robert Waelder was interested quickly in the psychoanalysis and joined the small group of close relations which met at Freud Wednesdays. </p><p><p>After an analysis with Herman Nunberg then another with Anna Freud , Robert Waelderacquired quickly a statute enviable because of its moderation and its great capacities of analysis and synthesis. Since 1930, its work was seen recognized by the attribution of the price Deutsche Kant Gesellschaft for its famous Psychology of Faith. It was a time joint editor, with Ernst Kris , of the review Imago and it is him which was elected in 1935 by the Viennese group to go to London within the framework of exchanges of views with the incipient kleinien group. </p><p><p>In 1938, under the push of the political events, Waelder emigrated in the United States and settled in Philadelphia where it chooses to join the rows of Philadelphia Association for Psychoanalysis of which he was a president twice. He continued a brilliant university career in Jefferson Medical College but encountered certain difficulties with the American psychoanalytical institutions opposed to the practice of the psychoanalysis by not-doctors. His/her principal colleagues were Abraham L Freedman, Samuel A. Guttman , Paul Sloan, Bertram D. Lewin , Herman Nunberg , Eli Markovitz, Muriel Gardiner and Paul Ecker. </p><p>On a more personal level, Robert Waelder married about 1930 Jenny, of which it had two girls, Marianne and Dorothea. Little time after its arrival in the United States, it divorced and his wife remaria Duncan Hall and continued its psychoanalytical career under the name of Jenny Waelder-Hall . Robert Waelder remaria in 1946 with Elsie Martens of which it had two children: David and Cathy.
