  • Note: From Bobby Harwood, "Personal interview with Carl Dexter Blackwelder, g grandson of Allen gave me these notes on abt. 1990. As already noted fr om Rev. Albrights book about the great strength of Allen was told to Ca rl from his grandfather, Wilson Mathias Furr that he in fact could drin k from the bung hole of a 50 gal. keg. Once when his wagon busted a whe el crossing Rocky River he carried it on his back a great distance to h ave it repaired while his son Wilson Mathias stayed with the mules. All en once won a bet he could hold some huge timbers over his head while s erving in the Civil War so he could get a 30 day leave. Allen did not h ave to serve in the war but volunteered. He was wounded in the bowels w hile serving & Wilson Mathias said he made a whistling sound as he brea thed. Wilson Mathias also said his father rode back on the same white h orse he rode off to war on." 1 2 3 4 5

    In the name of God Amen. I Allen Furr of the county of Cabarrus State o f North Carolinia being Some what advanst in years and in low State of h ealth and weak in body but of sound mind and memory at this time blesse d be God for the same and considering the uncertainty of life knowing t hat it is so orderd that all men once must die and feeling desirious to l eave my worldly substance which the lord has endowed and blessed me wit h for the welfare of my beloved wife and family I theare fore make this i nsturment of writing to be and Contain my last will and testament in ma nner and forme as folows viz 1st I recommend my soul to God who gave it a nd my body to be burried in a decen and Christon like manner Item 2nd I w ill to my beloved wife all my land horses catel hogs and sheap and all h ouseholde and kitchen furniture and all tools and house affares and all g rain that may be one hande Anfurther I will that all my Just dets to be p aid and Evry thing else to belong to my beloved wife so longe as she r emain a widow [next page] But in case that after my Death She should c hoose intermarry agane and should do so then in that case it is my will t hat all property must come to sall as soon as could be convenient and t hen for her to draw a Childes parte and I will that all my Children s s hall share and share alike at the end of my wifes life then all to be s olde and equley divided

According to Jimmy J. Fur r, a descendant, he was too old to enter the Civil War but went in for a f riend. He was wounded and never fully recovered.
