This history from from Herb Hune, Curtis Craig and Sandra Ellenberg:

David departed Brownsville, TN, with his 2 older brothers shortly after his father's death. It is suspected he didn't get along with his step-mother and her 6 children. The brothers moved to Bastrop Co, TX in 1854. Their sister, Rebecca, remained in Haywood Co, TN, where she married Newton Stewart and their descendants still live in the Brownsville area.

After moving to Bastrop Co, TX, David collected money from the sale of the property in TN left to him by his father's will. Evidently he sold his 70 acres to his step-mother for $525.

On 2 Feb 1859, David Ed. bouth 50 acres of land from WB Billingsley for $200. The land was located 7 miles north of Bastrop, TX on Sandy Creek.

On 27 Jul 1870, David Ed. bouth 50 acres of land (Farm Lot #74) from Lewis and Henrietta V. Outlaw for $330. Land located about 4 miles north of Bastrop TX on Piney Creek.

On 18 Mar 1873, David Ed. bought 50 acres of land (Farm Lot #72) and east half of lots 76 and 77. Land located as part of the Samuel Reid Survey, about 5 miles north of Bastrop, TX.

On 23 June 1876, David Ed. bought 6 acres of land from John B and Margarett A Black for $25. Land is located about 5 miles north of Bastrop, TX on north side of Spicer Creek and adjacent to property already owned by David Ed.

David entered the Confederate Army on 22 May 1862 and served in Company B, 17th Infantry. He was first discharged in May, 1865.

Texas State Archives: David Outlaw was a drummer in Col. R.T.P. Allen's regiment after mustering in at Camp Terry, 30 Mar 1862. Discharged 30 June 1862 as a private. (3 mos + 1 day) & received $50 mustering out pay. Believe he rejoined the CSA because he later served in 1863 and 1864 battles.

The 17th Infantry was a part of Gen Walker's Texas Division. The Morgan and Highsmith Companies from Bastrop Cty were a part of the Texas Division. Walker's Division participated in the Battles of Mansfield, Pleasant Hill (Apr 1864), and Milliken's Bend (1863) and Jenkins Ferry, LA (Apr 1864) and was successful in preventing Union Forces from overrunning Texas.

He entered the Confederate Home in Austin, TX on 9 November 1904, classified with general disability, showing he was a widower and with Hattie Pierce (his daughter) as next of kin.

He died in the Confederate Home 16 Apri 1918 and is buried in the State Cemetary in Austin, TX, where burials are by date of internment. His burial site is: Confederate Veteran Sec 3 Row F, Plot 5.

Marriage 1 Sarah Elizabeth ERWIN b: 1840 in Maury Co, TN
    • Married: 3 DEC 1857 in Bastrop, Bastrop Co, TX
    • Note:

Marriage license date shows it was issued 3 Dec 1857 by Cicero Nash, Bastrop County Clerk, and it also indicates the marriage took place of 3 Dec 1858 by S.C. Nolen, Justice of the Peace for Bastrop County. Further, it was recorded by the County Clerk on 4 Aug 1858. It is believed the marriage actually took place in 1857, because one year is too long between issuance and execution of license and the final recording occurred during August 1858, five months before the wedding ceremony according to the license information.
