BIRTH PLACE: According to his marriage record, he was born in the village of Czuryly, near: Zbuczyn in the district of Siedlce. However, his biography (see sources) states that he was born in the village of Krzymosze, near: Mordy in the district of Siedlce. In order to verify it, one should search for his birth record. However, I am currently not researching this branch of my family, yet I assume the official records to be more liable. As the marriage record does not contain information on the birth date, this data is given after the biography.

BIOGRAPHY: Born in Czuryly, near Zbuczyn, in the district of Siedlce, Edward Tarnowski moved with his family to Przezdziatka in the district of Sokolów Podlaski in 1927, when his father bought a medium-sized land property there. He graduated from the Primary School in Przezdziatka in 1932. He was an intelligent student, interested above all in biology and the Russian language. In 1935, he joined the Communist Union of the Youth of Poland (Komunistyczny Zwiazek Mlodziezy Polski, KZMP) as a secretary of the local group in Przezdziatka. Later he became a member of the Communist Party of Poland (Komunistyczna Partia Polski, KPP) and served the groups in Grodzisk, Korczew, Kosów Lacki, Repki, Sabnie, Sterdyn, Skrzeszew, Tosie, Zambrów, Zabki and Miedzna. His Communist activity did not disturb him to act legally in the Union of Rural Youth of the Republic of Poland (Zwiazek Mlodziezy Wiejskiej Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej, ZMW RP) as a member of its administration in Sokolów Podlaski. In the autumn months, he took odd jobs in the confection factory in Elzbietów at the suburbs of Sokolów Podlaski. He was a Communist agitator among the labourers there. On March 22nd, 1939, he was drafted into the army and took part in defensive fights. In autumn 1939, upon his return home, he gathered guns left behind by the retreating forces and got in touch with Communists. In 1940, he married Janina Kalinowska from Miedzna, a member of the Communist Union of the Youth of Poland (Komunistyczny Zwiazek Mlodziezy Polski, KZMP). In springs 1942, he took part in the organisational meeting of the Polish Labourers' Party (Polska Partia Robotnicza, PPR) and the People's Guard (Gwardia Ludowa, GL) and was elected a secretary of the PPR's local group in Sokolów Podlaski. He also directed the activities of the GL's guerrilla forces in the region of Sokolów Podlaski. On April 13th, 1943, the Gestapo surrounded his parents' home in Przezdziatka and arrested his father Jakub and brother Zdzislaw. He himself managed to escape, but from then on he had to act in conspiracy. His wife Janina left their little son at her parents in Miedzna and joined Edward in the forces of the GL in the area of Sokolów Podlaski. Edward soon became the leader of the unit. Together with his wife, he led many successful raids. In summer 1943, he was nominated for a member of the GL's Staff in the region of Siedlce.
After the pacification and mass arresting of the members of the resistance movement, he hid himself in the neighbourhood of Siedlce. On August 27th, 1943 he went to the village of Kamionka, near Myslow to widen the front of resistance against the Germans. He was descovered, caught and put in the Gestapo's prison in Warsaw. The Germans shot him dead in unknown circumstances. He belonged to the most prominent fighters for the freedom of Poland in the region of Siedlce. His courage and passion won him respect among his fellow partisans.
