of 1861-1865 published 1899. The Roll Call by Walter J. Kirby lists Sergeant John W. Rasin, entered service
10-2-1861, Company B, 2nd Eastern Shore Volunteer Infantry. Transferred to
Company K, 11th Regt. Maryland Infantry (d.u.) Rasin returnd to Kent Co in Aug
1862 to recruit additional volunteers. He was taken prisoner at the Battle of
Wincesther, VA July 28 1864 and confined to a prison in Danville, VA. He
married Sarah E. Jervis 10-6-1873 in New Castle, DE, owned los 89 and 90 in
Chestertown on the west side of High street at the corner of Kent Circle) He
wrote his will while in poor health and died 12-26-1896. He was survived by a
dau. Rose Steen Rasin and a son John W. Rasin.
NEWS: Kent County News, March 11, 1865. "Sergt. John W. Rasin, of this town, has been exchanged, and reached home on Monday. He was taken prisoner last summer during the retreat from Winchester, and has been confined at Danville, Va. He is much reduced in flesh, and states that the rations served to the prisoners were barely sufficient to maintain life."
CENSUS: 1870 he is living with his brother Louis' widow as caretaker.
