  • ID: I2299
  • Name: Jincy Or Ginsey LAWSON
  • Sex: F
  • Birth: ABT 1800 in North Carolina
  • Death: in St. Clair County, Alabama
  • Note:

One researcher indicated she died 1851?

Jincy or Gincey was listed in two of the St. Clair Census but never with a husband. Jerry Jones of St. Clair County has been studying the history of the county for many years and he believes Jincy was a daughter of Elizabeth Lawson and never married. Some say she was a school teacher.

Jincy Lawson is listed in the 1830 St. Clair County, Alabama Census. In her household are 1 male, age 5-10 years, 3 females, age under 5 years, and 1 female, age 20-30 years. She is living next door to William Clark who married an Elizabeth Lawson, 6 households from John Lawson and 5 households from Goulder Fields.

Jincy Lawson is listed in the 1840 Tishomingo County, Mississippi. Her family is living next door the families of William and Daniel Lawson. The index listed her name as Tincy but if you look at the microfilm you will see that it is Jincy. In her family she has 3 males 5-10 years, 1 male 20-30 years, 1 female under 5 years, 1 female 5-10 years, 1 female 10-15 years and 1 female 30-40 years. She was also in the 1841 and 1845 Tishomingo County, Mississippi Tax List.

A Gincey Lawson is listed as family #177 in the 1850 St. Clair County Census. Her age is given as 50 years, and born in North Carolina. She is living next door to son, Jackson Lawson and her two married daughters, Nicey Lawson Battles and Mary A. Lawson Battles.

Where Jincy/Ginsey and what happen to her after 1850 (maybe she died) I have not been able to find any records. I do know her two married daughters Mary A. and Nicey were in Izard County, Arkansas in 1854. Maybe she traveled west with them and died in Arkansas?

In the "National Queries Forum", Issue #9, Dec. 1990 there was a query; "Need info on John Lawson, born ca. 1795, died before 1830 in St. Clair Co. Alabama; wife Ginsy ----. One daughter Mary married Francis Battles ca. 1840." Submitted by Herman L. Weiland, 2511 North Waverly Drive, Bossier City, LA 71111-5933. After writing to Weiland, he indicated he had no proof that Ginsy was the wife of John. He made his conclusion from the fact that a John Lawson was in the 1830 St. Clair County Census. After a number of years, I have proven that this was the John Lawson that moved to Walker County, Alabama and was listed in the 1840 Walker County Census. I do believe but so far unable to prove that Jincy or Ginsey Lawson, as well as the Daniel and William Lawson in Tishomingo County are somehow related to John Lawson of Walker County, Alabama.
