HICKORY VALLEY CEMETERY
Hickory Valley Cemetery is the cemetery of Hickory Valley Methodist Church. It can be found on Hwy 167 N about two miles from Cave City. The church building, with a sign in front identifying it sits on the left side of the road; the cemetery is across the street. Its entrance is a gap in the fence, closed off by a heavy wire with white rags tied to it. The wire is easily unhooked, allowing access to the cemetery.
This is a small cemetery, but there are several graves marked only with field stones or stones so weathered they can no longer be read.

There is one cemetery that sticks out in my mind; Donald that if I were
you - I would look there right off the bat for Nancy and William Jackson's
final resting place. I visited this cemetery in 1999 - the only time that I
was in Arkansas; on a genealogical mission; so to speak. Blankenship
cousins had found my ggrandfather there in an unmarked grave and had his
burial place marked; shortly before I arrived. The name of the cemetery was
Hickory Valley and it was just over the Izard County line and within the
Independence County borders. One of Mary Jane Jackson sons was a Will
Langston - and he married James Calvin Blankinship's daughter; Mary
Blankinship. That marriage after many children dissolved; and I have never
found Will Langston again. I believe that some in the branch think that
hemight have moved on to Missouri after the turn of the century.
Anyway, Mary Jackson's husband; Thomas Beale Langston is buried at Hickory
Valley and I am guessing that she is too and if I were to bet; I would think
that Nancy and William Jackson are there, also.
It appears that there is only one branch of the Langstons and one branch of
the Blankinships that settled in this particular area. The community is
called Convenience and there was the area church across the road from the
cemetery. All very well kept.
This from my Jim Blankinship's file and found in my grandmother (one of his
daughter's) cedar chest:
James Calvin Blankinship was born February 23rd 1858. Departed this life
March 14th 1903 of pneumonia and thyphoid fever. He was a trustee and
charter member of the Church at Convience Arkansas. He was a Methodist
Protestant by choice. He sang "How firm a Foundation," "The Life Boat" and
"Jesus Loves of my Soul" a few days before he died. He said to one of his
daughters just before he died "Don't leave me for I will soon be gone" and
she asked, "Where are you going Pop" he said "I am going home you will all
soon see me start. I will soon be done with the sufferings of this world.
I am going to Rest." So, the church in extending its sympathy offers this
consolation to the bereaved family that he died with a hope. By order of
the Church of Convience, Arkansas.

Now Donald, it appeared to me that services were still be held in this
church. I would set about finding church records, if I were you - might
tell you a great deal about the Jacksons. And for that matter - my
Blankinships, I suppose.
Did that help?
