On 19 July 1770 Ralph Griffin enlisted as an Ensign in the Halifax County Militia in Virginia . During the Revolutionary War he enlisted In Jan 1779 at Camden District, South Carolina an d served 2 months as a Private in Capt. Edward Lacey's Company, Col. Joseph Brown's SC Regime nt. In July 1780 he served in Capt. Edward Lacey's Company, Col. Patton's SC Regiment. He fou ght in the battles of Rocky Mount, Hanging Rock, Fishing Creek, and Ling's Mountain. Afte r a furlough he returned to the army and served until Apr 1781. As a veteran of the SC Militi a Ralph was awarded a pension of $43.33 effective 4 Mar 1831, and placed on the roll on 11 Ju ly 1833; at the time he was age 80 (Pension #S16389).
