"Know all men by These present that I jonathan Hammond of Maryland Worcester County for and i n consideration of the sum of thirty pounds current money of Maryland to me in hand paid by W m. Holland of the afsd County at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the rec eipt whereof I the said Jonathan Hammond do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained & sol d and by these present do grant bargain & sell unto the said Wm Holland Junr his Executors ad ministrators and assigns all the property herein after particularly mentioned that is to sa y the whole of my right or part of my Crop of Corn that is now on the ground with also the fo dder also one mare and Colt one yoke of oxen one cow & yearling one Cow and calf three feathe r Beds & furniture one cupboard three Chests Eight lg chairs two Iron Potts & one Iron Oven o ne cart one Spinning Wheel & one Loom six pewter plates & three ditto dishes three stone pott s & eight head Hoggs & four head of sheep one frying pan TO HAVE AND TO HOLD all and singula r & property or good above bargained and sold to The said Wm Holland his executor adm assign s agains me the said Jonathan Hammond my Est adm and assigns and against all and every perso n and persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these present in witnes s where of the said Jonathan Hammond hath hereunto his hand set and seal affixed the 10th da y of August eighteen hundred and one. Signed sealed delivered in the present of Jno Holland."
It appears that Jonathan sold out all his possessions in 1801 for the family to travel ligh t and start over, cash in hand. He moved first to Virginia (based on the reported birthplac e of daughters Milly and Nancy), possibly to visit the ancestral home in Northhampton Co. H e moved on to Pennsylvania in about 1806.
In 1810 Jonathan lived in Redstone Township, Fayette Co., PA (page 278) with three males ag e 0-10, one male age 26-45, two females age 0-10, and one female age 26-45. [In 1810 a Jno. H ammond lived in St. Clair Township, Bedford Co., PA (page 9) (11010-30010-00), with 2 sons an d 3 daughters.]
In Fayette Co., PA Jonathan was a laborer and farmer without owning any land. He appears in t he tax lists as follows (Microfilm #1449137):

1813 Jonathan Hammons 1 cow $8, total valuation $33.
1814 Jonathan Hammond 1 cow $8, total valuation $18.
1815 Jonathan Hammond 2 horses $50, 1 cow $8, total valuation $68.
Jonathan moved to IN in about 1816. In 1820 he lived in Jefferson Co., IN (page 276) (210110- 41010-02); age 45+ with wife 26-45 and 2 sons under 10, 1 son 10-16, 1 son (?) 26-45, and 4 d aughters under 10, 1 daughter 10-16, and 2 slaves. In 1830 he lived in Jefferson Co. (page 12 0) (01001001-0013001); age 50-60 with wife 40-50 and 1 son 5-10, 1 son 20-30, 1 daughter 10-1 5, and 3 daughters 10-20. In 1840 Jonathan lived in Ripley Co., IN (page 4) (00001001000-3100 100100000). In 1850 he farmed in Otter Creek Township, Ripley Co., IN (page 352) with his wif e Martha, daughter Matilda, and a farm laborer William Murdoch, age 18 MD. In 1860 Jonathan a nd Martha farmed in Otter Creek Township (page 118); the value of his property was $1,200.0 0 with personal assets of $400.00.
Jonathan voted on 7 Aug 1826 at Madison, Jefferson Co., IN (Microfiche #6027909).
On 20 Dec 1864 Manning Mundy, administrator for Jonathan Hammond, deceased, filed an affidavi t and application. Jonathan's will was proved 31 Oct 1867 in Ripley Co., IN (page 408-9) (fil m #1311952) and left his estate of $56.50 equally to Peter Hammond's heirs, Milly Roach, Nanc y Hall, Matilda Harrell, William Hammond, James Hammond, Melvina Larimore, Sarah Sherman, Eli za Munday, and George Hammond. The executor was Manning Munday, husband of his daughter Eliza .
