    On 13 April 1759, South Carolina granted to Samuel land on the north prong of Wateree C reek, bounded on the Northeast by John Griffin, on the Northwest by Richard Griffin. Richar d had a grant of 100 acres, John 200 acres, all on the Wateree Creek in what was then Fairfie ld County. On 8 Oct. 1765, Samuel Griffin, designated "of Halifax Co., VA,", sold his grant.

    18 Sep. 1760, William Byrd of Charles City County to Samuel Griffin of Halifax County , for one pound, fifteen shillings, no pence, 140 acres of land on the north side of the Hic o River, beginning at a sugar tree on the north side of the Hico thence to a red oak on the H ico thence down the side of the river to the beginning of all tree, woods, etc. David Caldwe ll by the power of attorney for Wiliam Byrd. Signed William Byrd, no witnesses. Recorded 18 S ept. 1760.

    20 May 1761 Richard Jones of Halifax Co., VA, conveyed 140 acres on Hico River to Sa muel Griffin of Halifax Co., VA. The deed was witnessed by Ralph Griffin, Solomon Owen, an d Richard Griffin and was recorded 20 Aug. 1761. [Halfax Co., VA, Deed Books 1759-1767]

    Daniel Dean of Halifax to Seth Pettipoole of Halifax, lower side of Hico River, boun ded by Grifffens Road, thence along the lines of lands devised by Hon. William Byrd Esq to Sa muel Griffin, thence along his line to a tract of land laid of out of Byrd's tract for John M urfey, Howard Hurst, Pinsons Shoal Branch, Byrd's old line, Ralph Griffen, about 100 acres; s igned: Daniel Dean.; wit: George Boyd Jr, Patrick Fitzgerald, Elisha Estes; 20 Mar 1771; reco rded: 21 Mar 1771.

    Samuel Griffin, then living in the Parrish of St. Mark, Craven Co., according to the d eed, purchased 100 acres on the head of the Sandy River from John Land on 14 April 1776 (Boo k A, page 443). Witnesses included Ralph Griffin, who made his mark. The sale price was list ed as 125 pounds. This may have been an error. On page 445 the sale is repeated, apparentl y the same land, for 10 shillings.

    July Session, 1799. The last will & testament of Samuel Griffin, deceased, was produc ed in open court and proved by the oath of David Owen & Priscilla Owen, two of the witnesse s thereto & ordered to be recorded. [The court also proved the will in a later session of th e July court. The contents of the will were not included in this book, but the will is proba bly in the Chester County Courthouse.] Minutes of the County Court, Chester County, South Car olina, 1785-1799.

    Samuel Griffin's will divided his land among his three sons remaining in South Carolina . This is supported by deeds. Edward Griffin sold his 33 1/3 acres on 25 Nov. 1800 to Barth olomew. Larkin Owen was a witness. (Book E, page 174). Solomon sold out to Bartholomew th e same day (Book E, page 174).
