Abigail inherited thirty pounds from her father's estate. After her father's death, her moth er moved to West Bridgewater to live with Abigail until her death in 1727. From her mother , Abigail received one-third of the wearing apparel of her grandmother Mary (Watson) Leonard , miscellaneous household items and money (some of it to be given to her dead sisters' childr en) and with the stipulation that she quit her interest in her father's wearing apparel. I n these colonial times wearing apparel was an important item, for its disposal is mentioned i n many wills and inventories. The coats that the colonists exchanged for land from the India ns were not such a cheap price to pay as persons today deem them. Abigail married Ephraim Ho ward (or Hayward, as it appears in some sources), the son of Ephraim Howard of Bridgewater, w ho was born in 1697. He was the grandson of John Howard (Hayward) who was brought up by Mile s Standish and became his right-hand man. Ephraim was a representative to the General Court i n 1723. Abigail and Ephriam lived and raised their family in West Bridgewater, Massachusett s Bay Province.
