    Davoull Coons joined the Back Creek Quakers in Randolph Co., NC on 27 July 1793. Davolt Koon e was disowned for marrying out of the Quaker Unity to one nearer than a second cousin on 2 7 June 1801.

    Devault appears in the 1815 tax list with 150 acres at North Fork, Ashe Co., NC.

    Davault recorded land in Morgan Co., IN, Section 13, Township 12 north, Range 1 east, on 14 N ov 1820, although Morgan Co. was not formed until 1822. Subsequent land transactions in th e Recorders Office, Morgan Co. were recorded in 1826, 1828, 1829, 1830, 1834, 1835 and 1836.

    "In those early times it was often the case that the men of the family would come in the mont h of March, select and clear a piece of ground and build a cabin, cultivate some corn and veg etables, and then return and move the family in the latter part of the summer or fall. An ins tance of this kind was told the writer by the late Elijah Koons, son of Devault Koons, whil e at his house, which stood on the very spot of ground that he (Elijah) and his father cleare d and planted in the spring of 1820. This was in Sec. 16, T. 12, R. 1 E., known in the earl y days as "the old sixteenth," the land of corn and "punkins," squirrels and paroquets." Deva ult Koons with his large family moved to this cabin in due time and became one among the firs t settlers in the south part of Washington township.     In 1830 Davault Koons lived in Morgan Co., IN with his wife, 8 males, and 5 females (page 252 ) (1122201000000-1010201000000).

    Devault's estate was proved 1 Apr 1836 with letters of administration granted to Grant Staff ord and bond filed with son-in-law John Dyer as security.

    Koons Cemetery, Morgan Co., IN - Koons cemetery located on the land originally deeded to Deva ult Koons by President James Monroe in 1822. It is located in Section 13, Township 12 North , Range 1 East. There is no remaining headstone for Devault.
