    A protracted political and legal career came to an end on June 10, 1907, with the death of Judge Julius B. Curtis, resident of Stamford for 43 years. Born in Newtown, CT on Dec. 10, 1825, he received most of his education in the Newtown public schools and the Newtown Academy. In 1846, he began the study of law in the office of three attorneys and in 1850 entered a law school at Ballston Springs, Saratoga, NY. He was admitted to practice the same year at the Fairfield County Court. Starting practice in Greenwich in 1851, and in 1864 he came to Stamford. He was elected Judge of the Probate Court in 1867, holding the post through 1870. He was also judge of the Borough Court 1887 to 1893, and was Senator from the Twelth District in 1858 and again in 1860. At that time he was member ex-oficio of the corporation of Yale College. From 1896 to 1905, he was president of the Fairfield Bar Association.
