Name: Polly Tune
Birth: ABT 1777 in near Meadville, Halifax County, Virginia, USA
Note: Mary's (Polly) birth year range from the 1820 census is between 1775-1794. Given the known ages of her siblings & the statement in her father's will.."...I give to each of my daughters Fanny and Polly in order to make them equal with their other sisters which have married..." gives the impression of an older daughter. Since sister Fanny did not marry until 1828, after her father's death, one could presume both were taking care of their elderly father after the death of their mother prior to 1818. The other siblings were all married at the time of Travis Tune's will. There is also the possiblity she was born later circa 1783-1790.
Individual Note AFT 1820 Presumed in Halifax County, Virginia
Note: Polly is unmarried at the time of her father's will in 1818. It is noted she was not given a slave or money of equal value as were her siblings. She was not mentioned in the codicil in 1824. No other record of Polly has been located. The Polly Tune marriage to William Irby is that of her cousin, daughter of James Tune & Rebecca Connely.
Death: AFT 28 FEB 1818 in Presumed in Halifax County, Virginia
Next to nothing is known about this daughter of Travis and Frances Tune. Polly is likely her nickname and Mary more likely her actual given name. The only record I have for her is in her father's will, in which he refers to her as Polly. She is believed to be one of the two females on the 1820 census with Travis, by then a widower.
I believe both she and sister Frances "Fanny" Tune likely cared for their elderly father after the death of their mother. I have not found any marriage record for this Polly Tune. Her cousin Mary "Polly" Coley Tune, daughter of James Tune and Rebecca Connolly Tune married William Morgan Irby, Sr. in 1811 in Halifax, and is not to be confused with this Polly Tune who by her father's will in 1818 is clearly still single......."Item-At my death I give to each of my daughters Fanny and Polly in order to make them equal with their other sisters which have married; a feather bed and furniture which they now claim as theirs, also one horse saddle & bridle & one cow & calf each to them and their heirs forever."
Two of Polly's brother's, Kester and Travis Tune, Jr. are still living in Halifax County, Virginia and are seen on the 1830 census there with a female, aged 40-49 years old. This would be a birth between 1781-1790, which might also correspond with the 1820 census record for father Travis with 2 females aged 26-45 making them born between 1775-1794.
Otherwise, I can only assume that Polly never married and died in Halifax County, Virginia.
