    Vroman W. Van Wie, brother to John G. Hoyt's wife, Sabria Isadore ( VanWie) Hoyt, asked Willi am Spencer Hoyt to come to Spokane and help him run the Haversmale Island Flour Mill.
    I assume that he was contacted while living in Saline, Washtenaw Co,MI, when his Father, Joh n G. Hoyt had the York Mill, and his other son, George G. Hoyt was helping with that mill, Ge orge G.Hoyt then went to Elm Hall, Gratiot Co., Mi to manage a Flour/Grist Mill there, and Jo hn G. & William S. Hoyt removed to Spokane. William S might have moved first to South akota , then Spokane.
    Vroman VW came from the Dakota's to help run the mill.
    Vroman W. Van Wie lived with William S Hoyt's for 20 years.

Posted at Van Wie History & Genealogy Website -- By Susan Kastan - Jul 10 , 2009 Vroman W. Van Wie, Pioneer in American West . "Vroman W. Van Wie, born in Cayuga co. , N. Y., in 1833, came overland to Cal. in 1852. Mined on the upper Sacramento until the foll owing spring, and then drove a freight team to Shasta. He soon returned to San Francisco an d supplied milk to customers for 5 years, after which he farmed in the vicinity of San Jose f or some time. In 1861 he came to the Walla Walla Valley, going hence to the Florence mines, a nd to Montana, following the Rocky Mountains south to the Colorado River, then going to Pahra nagat and White Pine, Nev. He built the first house in Shermantown. Afterward he returned t o Washington with the N. P. R. R. party which first broke sod at Kalama, and remained in th e Puget Sound country 3 years. In 1872 he settled in Stevens co. (later Spokane) and engage d in stock-raising. In 1884 he went into merchandising at Medical Lake, the firm being Campbe ll & Van Wie.     Vrooman/Vroman Van Wie's parents were Lydia (Conger) and Henry Van Wie 1797-1876, Henry's fir st of two marriages with children. Henry was the youngest son of Jacomyntje (Burhans) and A braham Van Wie b. 1753. Many of this latter couple's children migrated from their native Al bany, New York area.
