A. M. Chisholm
On Wednesday, October 22 the residents of South Bay Mouth were shocked, when word came over the wires, that Mr. Alexander Malt Chisholm, of this place, had passed away in the General and Marine Hospital Owen Sound, Ontario, where he had gone for treatment. Although Mr. Chisholm's illness was of a serious nature, no person expected he would not recover.
Mr. Chisholm was one of the earliest residents of this place. He was born in the village of Malta in Bruce County January 21st year 1856. He was the first boy born there thus his name Malt. At the seven years of age he moved with his parents to Owen Sound, residing there five years, they again moved, this time to Walker's Point on the south side of Manitoulin, coming there in a sailing schooner. They later moved to Michel's Bay. In the year 1886, Mr. Chisholm married Miss Henrietta Armstrong of Inastoge, Ont. and together they came to South Bay Mouth, where they have resided ever since.
He was a Presbyterian in Region and was always present at Church services in the Village, regardless of denomination. He was a good neighbor, and a kind fanther (sic), always of a cheerful disposition, and delighted in telling stories of the olden days on the Island and in Bruce County.
The funeral was held from the United Church here on Sunday, October 27th, and was largely attended. The remains were laid to res in Hilly Grove Cemetery. The service was conducted by Rev. Young assisted by Rev. Pelletier.
There were many floral tributes from the family and friends.
He leaves to mourn his loss his widow and family Walter, Harry, and Everett of Port Arthur, Mrs. A. Muir of Kakabeke Falls, Murray, Howard and Mrs. F. Lesson at home. there are also two brothers Alonzo and Walter of Thessalon and one sister Mrs. Jane Snow of Spokanne, Wash.
The Sympathy of neighbors and friends goes out to the bereaved family in their loss, which we feel is our loss too.
