New Horticultural Society Organized at The West End (handwritten 1963)
The Organization Meeting of the Dawson-Robinson Horticultural Society, was held April 23rd in the Meldrum Bay Community Hall.
Mr. George Bisphop (sic), Director for Zone 13 of the Ontario Horticultural Association acted as Chairman for the Organization Meeting.
Officers elected were Mrs. Olive Hall, President; Mrs. Hazel Addison, 1st Vice-President; Mrs. Norma Townsend, 2nd Vice-President.
Directors for one year: from Meldrum Bay are: Mrs. Downer, Mrs. Clarence Morrison; Mrs. Geo. Everett, and from Silver Water, Mrs. Ted Addison, Mrs. W. Duncanson.
Directors for two years: from Meldrum Bay are: Mrs. George Bailey, Mrs. Leonard Bailey, Mrs. Trick, from Silver Water, Mrs. Forester, Mrs. Arthur Addison, Mrs. Homer Johnson.
The Secretary is Mrs. Jack Addison: the Treasurer, Mrs. Leonard Bailey Sr.
Mrs. Edna Millman and Mrs. Cadotte will act as auditors.
Mr. Bishop outlined the duties involved and explained the Constitution. He congratulated the Society for its efforts.
President, Mrs. Hall gave a vote of thanks to Mr. Sillifant, Mr. Tanner and Mr. Bishop for helping to organize this Society.
Department of Agriculture, Gore Bay, lends its support to this organization.
Mr. Silifant offered dahlia bulbs to all ladies present and offered to show slides of his flowers at a future meeting.
Meetings will be held alternately between Meldrum Bay and Silver Water beginning Tuesday, May 21st at Silver Water Community Hall, and thereafter the third Tuesday of each month.
There were twenty-five interested people at the meeting and forty signified their interest by becoming paid up members.

Bailey, Gertrude - a resident of Woods Lane Apartment passed away at the Memorial Hospital, Sudbury on Tuesday, July 23, 1991 at the age of 85 years. She was born in Burpee Township, daughter of the late Donald and Isabel (Harper) Bailey and had been a housewife all of her married life. Gertie was a regular at the Drop in Centre and loved playing cards. She was a member of the Meldrum Bay Museum Committee, the Meldrum Bay United Chruch and the UCW of the church. Her husband Donald George Bailey predeceased in September of 1982. Loving mother of Arden and daughter-in-law Lureen of Meldrum Bay, Orace and daughter-in-law Kay of Sault Ste. Marie and Ronald and daughter-in-law Sarah of Sault Ste. Marie. Loving grandmother of seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and one great great grandson. Also surviving are a number of step sisters and brothers. Predeceased by daughter Audrey, sister Isabel Murphy and brothers Leonard and Harvey Bailey. Visitors were received at the Turner Funeral Home, Gore Bay on Wednesday from 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service was conducted at Meldrum Bay United Church on Thursday at 11 am with Mr. Erwin Thompson and Rev. Iain Macdonald officiating. Interment in Meldrum Bay Cemetery. In remembrance donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

News of Silver Water area
Our community was well as Meldrum Bay was deeply saddened by the passing of Mrs. George (Gertie) Bailey of Gore Bay formerly of Meldrum Bay. The funeral was held at the United Church, Meldrum Bay, Thursday 25th. Deepest sympathy goes to her family, sons Arden, Orace, and Ron and Dannie McKay and their families. Gertie will be greatly missed by her family and many numerous friends.

On Saturday December 28, 1974 Mr. and Mrs. George Bailey celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary.
The couple were honoured by a lovely dinner which was held at the Meldrum Bay Hotel. Followed by a come and go tea where about ninety friends and relatives gathered to help them celebrate. A lovely wedding cake was made and decorated by Mrs. Howard Rumley.
The couple have three sons, Arden of Sudbury, Orace and Ron of the Sault Ontario. One daughter Audrey is deceased. They also have seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
MPP John Lane presented them with a plaque on behalf of the Premier of Ontario. A scroll was received from Prime Minister Trudeau. A congratulatory telegram was received from Governor General Leger.
Among the gifts they received was a gift of money from their friends in the community. Their children and son-in-law presented them with a gold dome clock. Their grandchildren and great grandchildren gave them a gold tray, tea pot, and cream and sugar set.
The bride and groom of 50 years have made their home in Meldrum Bay for the past forty-four years.
