    ROBERTS, GRAY STOCK 1793-1862 Atkinson County, GA

    GRAY STOCK ROBERTS was born November 25, 1793 in Burke County, Georgia, a nd was a son of ROBERT ROBERTS, R. S. He grew up in Montgomery County a nd was married there January 14, 1816 to SARAH "Sallie" LOTT, a daught er of Mark and Delilah Jones Lott. She was born September 22, 1797 in Bul loch County (GA) and died in Coffee County, now part of Atkinson County, G eorgia on June 18, 1878.

    To Gray Stock Roberts and Sallie Lott Roberts were born 9 children.

    GRAY ROBERTS, JR. (listed as Gray W. Roberts on company roll) enlist ed in Company "H", 26th Georgia Vol. Inf. Cav. CSA, enlisting at Waresbor o, Ware County, GA on May 11, 1862; he was killed at the Battle of Cold Ha rbor, Virginia on June 1, 1864.

    JOHN ROBERTS, above, enlisted in Company "K", 26th Regiment, CSA on May 1 0, 1862, and died in a Confederate hospital in Richmond, Virginia on Ju ly 30, 1862.

    About 1822, GRAY S. ROBERTS and family moved from Montgomery Count y, GA to what was then Ware County but now is Atkinson County, locati ng on Lot of Land No 66, 6th District of originally Appling County. Th is Lot was cut into Clinch County in 1850; and out of Clinch County into C offee County in 1854; and out of Coffee County into Atkinson County in 191 9. A few years later Mr. Roberts moved and settled the old ELISHA LOTT fa rm and still later, bought Lot 23, 6th District, and moved there and he di ed there on December 23, 1862. Both he and his wife are buried at Antio ch Baptist Church near Kirkland, Atkinson County, Georgia.

    Mr. Roberts and his wife were members of the Methodist Church, as were al so their children. Their membership was at the old Roberts Church now kno wn as Antioch Baptist Church referred to above. The church was original ly a Methodist but for many years now has been a Baptist Church.
